What is Post 21
Post 21 is a Day Program that provides stimulating and enriched programming for adults over the age of 21 with complex physical and/or developmental needs. We value and respect each person for their individual needs and uniqueness. Our program fosters a holistic, multisensory approach, creating opportunities to explore, communicate and expand relationships. Post 21 promotes a place for individuals to thrive and become their best self. We love what we do and are inspired to make a difference in the lives of the people we support.
Why do we need Post 21
- At the age of 21, these adults no longer have access to the enriched programming provided to children with disabilities through the School Boards.
- Due to complex conditions, there are few, if any, programs available that can meet the unique needs of these adults.
- At Post 21, we believe that people with developmental disabilities deserve to have a full and complete life; access to enriched programming and learning should not end simply because they have reached the age of 21.
A day at Post 21
- A day at Post 21 can include music, arts and crafts, puzzles, practice with reading and writing, discussion of current/ relevant topics, watching a movie, playing adapted games, or figuring out the daily Wordle! At Post 21, we work one on one with each participant to create the environment they need to grow their individual skill sets.
- At Post 21 we are able to take advantage of our very own backyard with brand new outdoor facilities. We acknowledge the importance of community and what better way than to join in on some fun with our neighboring Central Etobicoke school and enjoy some talent shows, animal therapy and cooking fun in the kitchen!
Additional Information
- Our current ratio is 3:1. We have Personal Support Workers (PSWs) hired to do personal care and help in the class. Our goal is to keep our ratio at 3 participants to 1 employee on average but many of our participants require 1:1 and we strive to have the resources and class structure to provide that necessary support!
- We hire an array of talent including Developmental Support Workers, PSWs, and Deaf Blind Intervenors. Post 21 believes communication is key to success and engages in “total communication” while supporting the philosophy “Do With not For”.
- The cost of the program is a pay per day fee of $120.00 a day. This is not structured and families are able to pick the number of days that will benefit their participant or what is feasible.
